Westmont Special Events Board

The Westmont Special Events Corporation is comprised of a nine member board of volunteers.  All board members serve a 2-year term and may be re-elected to serve additional terms.  Each year, the newly seated board selects its own officers, consisting of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.  Each board member takes on a committee chair position in addition to being a board member.  The WSEC board meets at least once a month to discuss and decide direction regarding the coordination of upcoming events.  It should be noted that all board members are unpaid volunteers and their work for the benefit of the entire community is greatly appreciated by the Village of Westmont.

WSEC Volunteers Honored
At Westmont Awards Banquet      

 

The Westmont Awards Banquet took place last week recognizing residents and business owners that were outstanding community participants in the Village of Westmont.  Among the recipients were members of the Westmont Special Events Corporation.

 

A new award this year, created to recognize outstanding volunteers for their efforts in community events was the Making Memories Award.  This year, Bob and Karen Mackert, volunteers with the WSEC, received the award.  Bob, Karen and family have been involved with the WSEC for years and are an integral part of making Cruisin’ Nights and Taste of Westmont happen.

 

The 2010 Citizen of the Year Award was given to WSEC Board Member and Secretary, Linda Sobotka.  Linda devotes much of her time as a volunteer for various organizations throughout the community. “I have volunteered my whole life, the feeling you get from volunteering is wonderful,” shared Linda.

 

Community events in Westmont are very dependent on volunteers.  Taste of Westmont is coordinated and planned for one year by core volunteers and a seven member board.  Over 300 volunteers assist in creating one of the largest outdoor summer festivals in the area.

 

The WSEC wants to make it clear that every little bit helps.  Whether you can commit to volunteering for a year, or for two hours, it matters.  Linda recommends, “If you are interested in an organization, check them out, attend a meeting and talk with other members…the town embraces you when you volunteer.”
