WSEC Board Members...

The Westmont Special Events Corporation would like to express gratitude to all of the board members, committee chairs and volunteers who generously gave their time in making the Taste of Westmont, Cruisin' Nights and all the other events we support a great success.

The Westmont Special Events Corporation recently debuted a new public service announcement to promote the 2010 Taste of Westmont. "We wanted to have a little fun while trying to get people energized about this year's event," says Larry McIntyre, WSEC Publicity Chair and Writer/Director of the PSA.

The WSEC has decided on the theme "Fun in the Sun" and the PSA reflects this mantra. The video stars WSEC board member Al Carson who seems to be on a virtual surfboard-slash-roller coaster ride. Hopefully, the PSA will get people thinking about planning for the 2010 Taste of Westmont.

"Everyone is very excited about how these promos turned out," says WSEC President Bob Mackert. "We have another PSA that will come out next month and we're already talking about future sequels."

The 2010 Taste of Westmont is scheduled for July 8, 9, 10 and 11 and the theme for the weekend is "Fun in the Sun". Entertainment schedules are still being developed, but it is expected that the weekend will features summer themes and the music of bands such as The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, some reggae, and more. Sunday night will continue to be the highly-regarded Muddy Waters Blues Night including an open mic blues jam and a Muddy Waters Slide Guitar Contest in honor of the blues legend's 95th birthday.

WESTMONT SPECIAL EVENTS CELEBRATES 5th ANNIVERSARY
Date issued - 01/01/09

Two-thousand and nine marks the fifth anniversary for the Westmont Special Events Corporation. The non-profit organization was created under the leadership of Mayor Rahn in January of 2004 for the purpose of supporting community events, particularly the Taste of Westmont.

"We are having this anniversary to celebrate our success with everyone who has made it possible," says WSEC President Bob Mackert. "This is an opportunity to showcase our organization."

Mackert continued by stating the importance of WSEC volunteers. The WSEC board is made up of nine elected volunteer officials and hundreds of additional volunteers assist with all of the work needed to complete the various events throughout the year. "The volunteers are the lifeblood of this organization," says Mackert. "There would be no Westmont Special Events without our great volunteers."

The goal of creating the WSEC was to satisfy a desire to continue various community events that needed assistance in the areas of coordination and fundraising. In the first year, the new organization focused on the Taste of Westmont. A year later, the WSEC became the host of the Westmont Cruisin' Nights events. Over the years, the WSEC has become involved with Concerts in the Park, Artists in Action, Celebrate Downtown Westmont, the Pumpkin Harvest Festival, Westmont Holly Days and more.

The WSEC also has worked cooperatively with the Westmont Historical Society to create the Muddy Waters exhibit, which is on display at the WSEC office in Westmont Centre, One South Cass Avenue. The exhibit features rare artifacts of Muddy Waters, the Godfather of the Blues, who lived in Westmont from 1973 to 1983.

Westmont Special Events is planning an open house in January to celebrate their 5th Anniversary. For more information, contact the WSEC office at (630) 829-WEST (9378).
